Up for sale, a 1959 Harmony H62 archtop in excellent condition, featuring its original pair of Gibson-made P-13 pickups. One of the finest guitars to every carry the Harmony name, this archtop boasts a 16 1/2" lower bout, 3 1/2" body depth, and a tone that is as rich as it is defined. Essential for jump blues and jazz, the Gibson produced P-13 single coil pickups are a precursor to the P-90 and have a slightly meatier and darker tone.Through your favorite vintage tube amp, the H62 has lovely top end and sparkle, with a bass response that has a sweetness and bloom to the notes without being boomy or loose sounding. Truly one of the cooler vintage pickups ever produced, the P-13 pickups compliment an archtop that's stately and alluring with a maple body, spruce top, and tortoise appointments!
The guitar also weighs a mere 6lbs 10oz. This Harmony h62 has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, with low, comfortable action and a fresh set of 11-50 strings. The neck has a very round and chunky C shaped profile that fills the palm with generous shoulders while still being very easy to chord.
The guitar has been professionally refretted with vintage-style fretwire that has perfect crowns and shows zero wear. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard sports pearloid block inlays and aged creme binding, and the guitar plays well in every register with low, comfortable action and sweet, singing tones. The nut has been upgraded to a hand-carved piece of bone for optimal note clarity and sustain measuring 1 3/4 in width. The inlaid "Harmony" logo and fleur de lis look great on the Brazilian rosewood headstock veneer, and the headstock no longer has a clear coat over the rosewood, with a polished and oiled appearance that highlights the grain in the wood. The original Waverly tuning machines all turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The carved Brazilian rosewood bridge with bone saddle is original as well, along with the nickel harp tailpiece. The bridge has ample height, with plenty of room for adjustment on both the bass and treble side thumbwheels. The H62 model stamp is visible through the F holes and inked into the inside of the back of the instrument along with the'59 date stamp. Cosmetically, the guitar has been well kept and is in good overall condition. The nitro lacquer finish is 100% original aside from a sliver of touchup on the treble side of the body along the seam of a single professionally addressed crack. The deep brown sunburst finish has great saturation and warmth, and the warm amber center of the burst on the back highlights some quilt figuring in the maple.
The spruce top shows light vertical lacquer checking and the guitar on the whole has some smaller nicks and scuffs, but nothing particularly of note. This vintage Harmony H62 is clean, complete, and sounds exceptional with the stock Gibson P-13 pickups! The original two-tone blonde and gray chipboard case is included.
