Tonally, the Jaguar features single coils with staggered alnico magnets that are very similar in output and design to a Stratocaster with the notable addition of the metal claws that focus the field of the magnets and dampen a bit of the usual single coil hum. Matched with 1Meg pots, the Jaguar has a very open tonal quality and a fullness and brash rhythm tone that you simply can't coax out of any other Fender. From spank and snarl in the bridge position to more mellow jangle at the neck, this Jaguar boasts a switch or knob for your every tonal desire. Flip on the rhythm circuit for even more smoothed out, dark tones that help abate the excess treble response of many amps while also providing a lovely voicing for your favorite overdrive and fuzz pedals.
The maple neck has a medium C shape. And as with many of Fenders shapes from 1965-66, the neck actually is a hair thicker at the nut, tapering thinner up the neck.
884 at the 1st fret and. 881 at the 12th fret, with the majority of the gloss on the neck worn down to the smooth, bare maple for a very silky feel. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard features cream binding, pearl dot inlay, and original fretwire. Fairly low in terms of overall height, with moderate wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-4, lighter wear until fret 6, and virtually no wear further up the fretboard. The truss rod is ideally adjusted and notes ring out clearly in every register. The nut measures a full 1 5/8 in width. E original "Fender Jaguar" waterslide decal is very clean and completely intact on the deeply ambered headstock face, and the original Fender "F" chrome tuning machines are present too, turning smoothly and holding pitch well.
On the body, all of the control plates retain their gleaming chrome finish with only a touch of surface patina, providing a nice contrast to the stock nitrate tortoise pickguard which has an incredible amount of deep yellow swirling. It's uncommon to see a pickguard this vibrant and colorful past the Pre-CBS era. All of the electronics are clean and stock, with Stackpole pots that date to the 17th week of'66 and solder joints that haven't been touched since the factory. The body routes are original, with stock shielding plates intact, and gray bobbin pickups that both have their original windings and covers. The vibrato unit is properly calibrated for everything from subtle shimmies to deep bends, jumping back into tune well and responding to the slightest touch with the original arm. The stock bridge has heavy patina on the saddles and bridge, and the original chrome "ashtray" bridge cover is intact. The nitro lacquer three-tone sunburst finish is vibrant and rich, with a good ring of red still present on the face of the guitar. In terms of cosmetic wear, the guitar shows buckle rash on the back as well as some cable worming and plenty of nicks and dings, but nothing untoward for a guitar of this vintage.
There is horizontal lacquer checking on the body and back of the headstock, and only a few smaller scattered nicks on the instrument's face. This Jaguar is a 100% original example right down to the last screw, and a professionally setup instrument that's ready for stage and studio use. A hardshell case is included.
