Up for sale, a 1979 Fender Stratocaster Hardtail in exceptional, collector-grade condition and in perfect working order. 100% original aside from a newer nut, this Stratocaster features a solid ash body, maple neck, and rosewood fretboard. At 8lbs 3oz, this Strat is a fairly lightweight example given this era of production, and there is a certain punch and power to the electrified sound, given the string through Hardtail body. Outfitted with a trio of original gray bobbin pickups, this Strat delivers the goods in every position on the five-way blade switch, with thinned out quack in positions 2 and 4.
Professionally setup here at Mike and Mikes Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, this Strat is dialed in and ready for stage and studio work. The maple neck has a full and inviting C shaped profile with ideal chunk and roundness, measuring. 905 deep at the 1st fret and filling out to. The profile has tons of shoulder, and the gloss finish is flawless with sparingly little aging. The original frets retain their full factory height, with moderate wear beneath the G and B strings on frets 1-7, and fainter wear exclusively beneath those strings until the octave.
The guitar plays cleanly in every register with an arrow straight neck. The nut has a slightly narrower than standard width at 1 9/16, yet provides comfortable and adequate string spacing. On the headstock, the original Stratocaster logo is present along with the original Schaller-made Fender "F" tuning machines which turn smoothly and hold pitch as they should. These F tuners are a serious step up from the ones Fender made in-house earlier in the decade and have a smooth and reliable feel. All three pickups have matching 1979 date codes stamped on the fiber bobbins, and the stock CTS pots date to the 1st week of 1979. All of the hardware is original too, with the stock hardtail bridge assembly, jack cup, and three-bolt F neck plate.
Cosmetically, this guitar is an exceptionally fine example, and the Sunburst has an almost two-tone appearance with a thin sliver of red between the dark brown body edges and deeply ambered center. This particular cut of ash has very prominent grain with a wide chevron central to the back of the instrument. The body finish shows mild horizontal finish checking as well as a few finish scratches just south of the belly contour on the back and some light scuffing on the treble-side lower bout edge, while the neck profile is virtually flawless.
Overall this is an extremely well-preserved vintage Hardtail Stratocaster. The original molded plastic Fender USA hardshell case is included.
