The ebony fretboard keeps things glassy and articulate, and this ES-347 has a pleasing, clear acoustic tone that translates well through the pickups. The original humbuckers in this model are a unique pair to be sure, and Gibson's Series VII pickups are essentially ceramic magnet Dirty Fingers with only one set of adjustment screws. Just like a Tar Back, the pickups have black epoxy applied to keep unwanted feedback to a minimum. These pickups are authoritative, clear, and powerful, cutting through with ample punch and pushing tube amps to the brink while also excelling at lightly compressed, round cleans. This Gibson weighs 9lbs 1oz and has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings and low action.
The figured three-piece maple neck has a slender C shape at nut, with lots of shoulder and roundness as you travel up the bound ebony board, measuring. 805 deep at the 1st fret and. The fretboard features pearl block inlay and original wide/flat Gibson fretwire that has a surprising amount of meat and crown, showing only light wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-6 and virtually no wear further up the fretboard. The guitar plays well in all registers, and the neck is arrow-straight with a responsive truss rod. The original brass nut measures 1 11/16 in width, and the headstock is fitted with the original Gibson-branded and Schaller-made gold tuning machines.
The gold hardware includes a brand new Gibson Nashville bridge and the original Schaller-made TP-6 tailpiece which functions as intended, yet is missing the fine tuning dial for the low E. Cosmetically, this is a particularly clean vintage Gibson, with a 100% original Tobacco Sunburst gloss nitro lacquer finish with no touchup or overspray. The top is extremely nice with light ambering of the body binding and only a bit of scuffing across the guard in the pick path. There is some additional light scuffing and finish wear in the clear coat on the lower bout on the back, but as the photos show this is a very well-kept and early example of the ES-347 model. The neck profile has a dark Walnut finish, somewhat masking three pieces of highly figured curly maple, and the profile is extremely clean with no palm wear and only a couple pinhead-sized nicks.
The original black tolex hardshell case with Gibson silkscreen on the exterior is included. Check out our shop "Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, " and please let us know if we can answer any questions!
